Max Mix Collections
En el año 1984 la compañía discográfica Max Music organizó un concurso, en el que buscaban gente que tuviera creatividad e ingenio a la hora de mezclar canciones. El premio consistía en grabar un disco. El concurso lo ganó un joven y desconocido Miquel Fabrellas, apodado Mike Platinas, que junto a Javier Ussía grabaron el Max Mix (El Primer Megamix Español). Este disco fue un hito por aquel entonces. Hasta la fecha, la única referencia que existía de este tipo de discos en España era el Studio 54 Connection (editado por la compañía Blanco y Negro Music en 1984) y que fue mezclado por el entonces DJ residente de la discoteca catalana, Raúl Orellana.
El Max Mix fue innovador en todos los sentidos, ya que además de mezclar las canciones entre sí, se añadían efectos a las mismas, sin perder la musicalidad. El proceso de grabación estaba hecho totalmente a mano, es decir, los efectos se hacían cortando y empalmando cinta, con lo que la elaboración era totalmente artesanal. El disco fue todo un éxito de ventas, y 6 meses después salió al mercado su segundo volumen, el Max Mix 2 (El Segundo Megamix Español). Este disco entro en el libro Guinness de los Récords, ya que tan sólo dos semanas después de ponerse a la venta, había vendido más de 100.000 copias. Este nuevo volumen superaba con creces a su antecesor, tanto técnica como artísticamente, ya que como su autor comentó hace poco en una entrevista, tuvo más libertad creativa que con el primero. En este volumen ya podemos apreciar cortes y efectos mucho más elaborados. El
master original constaba de más de 620 cortes, y en la actualidad es considerado uno de los mejores megamixes de la historia. Después de elaborar el Max Mix 2, Mike Platinas y Javier Ussía marcharon de Max Music, por discrepancias con la dirección. Después fueron sustituídos por Toni Peret, José Mª Castells y Andreu Ugas, que permanecerían en la compañía discográfica hasta 1997, momento en el cual empezarían a trabajar para la recién fundada Vale Music, junto con algunos directivos de Max
y antiguos trabajadores de esta.
